Olivella – Old Castle of Olivella

A circular route, suitable for everyone; a small scenic jewel that, except for the sea and the coastal façade, brings together all the original environments of the Garraf. A fortunate arrangement of elements, all of them surprising, keeps the interest of the itinerary constant.

Located in front of Olivella Town Hall, take the SL C-100 track, well signposted, to the left and downhill. Cross the Plana Novella road, the Camp Gran stream and, via the Coll de Triador, jump to the Fondo de la Servera, where you will find the PR C-37 path. On the left, an old farmer’s hut shows the traditional folk art of building with dry stone. A path to the right climbs up to the Safareig and Font del Rector, from where you reach the summit of Puig Molí, on which the castle sits. The return journey takes you past the rocks of Barret del Rector, the Cova de Can Muntaner, the Pivens and Can Muntaner.

    The Castell Vell de Olivella is an ancient castle, declared a cultural asset of national interest, documented since 992. Nowadays, only some remains of the walls are preserved, which seem to outline a trapezoidal plan.

    The Castell Vell de Olivella is an ancient castle, declared a cultural asset of national interest, documented since 992. Nowadays, only some remains of the walls are preserved, which seem to outline a trapezoidal plan.

    In the midst of the rubble of Olivella castle, and taking advantage of its stones, a mill was built in the 18th century, on the initiative of the parish priest of Olivella, which remained unfinished; a round tower can be seen.

    Very close to Olivella castle are the remains of the old Romanesque chapel of Sant Pere, the church was the old parish church of Olivella.
